Alabama is a state located in the Southern United States. It is bordered by Tennessee to the north, Georgia to the east, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico to the south, and Mississippi to the west. It was the twenty-second state admitted to the Union.

Alabama was admitted to the United States the same year the Confederacy of the Arkansas was created: 1819.
In 1824, during the lead up to the Arkansas War, the Alabama militia had helped Louisiana and Mississippi drive the Choctaws out of their states. Alabama also took the opportunity to push out the remaining Chickasaws.
During the 1824 presidential election, Albama initially went to John C. Calhoun. When the election went into the House of Representatives, Calhoun helped deliver Alabama's vote to Henry Clay.
