Alexander Dickson (1777-1840) was British artillery officer, reaching the rank of major-general. In 1815, with the rank of colonel, Dickson commanded British artillery in the Battle of New Orleans.

Colonel Alexander Dickson comanded British artillery during the Battle of the Mississippi. On December 27, 1815, Dickson's battery of twelve-pounders sank the USS Carolina. With this success, Admiral Alexander Cochrane agreed to General Edward Pakenham's plan to remove the eighteen-pounders from the British ships on hand, and move them on American positions.[1]
