Balthasar Charles (17 October 1629 - 9 October 1646), Prince of Asturias, Prince of Girona, Duke of Montblanc, Count of Cervera and Lord of Balaguer, Prince of Viana was heir apparent to all the kingdoms, states and dominions of the Spanish monarchy until his death.

When Grantville arrived in 1631, Balthasar Carlos was approximately 18 months old, and was the only legitimate child of Philip IV. In September of 1634, his father became aware that he had died of smallpox in the OTL, and ordered the introduction of up-time measures against smallpox.
