John "Hell-Fire Jack" Rogers (1750-1846) was a Scottish born soldier, who, after fighiting for the British during the American Revolution, opted to stay in the United States. He eventually became an ally of the Cherokee, living out the remainder of his life among them. One of his daughters, Tiana, became a consort of Sam Houston. One of his sons, John, Jr., was the last Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation West.

Sam Houston had extended an invitation for John Rogers to go on the expedition to Washington in June, 1814, but the captain had been away. Three of John Rogers's children, John, Jr., James, and Tiana, did go.
