Christian was the Prince-Elect of Denmark and Heir Apparent to the Kingdom of Norway from 1610 and 1603 respectively until his death in 1647, whereon after his brother Frederik took over. Despite performing the role of acting head of state for his father during the Danish Phase of the Thirty Years War, Christian didn't participate much in politics.
