Daniel Patterson in Trail of Glory[]

On December 23, 1814, Commodore Daniel Patterson, commanding the Carolina, provided cover fire from the Mississippi for Andrew Jackson's attack on John Keane's encampment. While Jackson's multi-pronged attack was called off, Patterson was able to inflict heavy casualties on the British.[1]

Patterson was assigned to the west bank of the Mississippi, under the command of General David Morgan. On January 7, 1815, he oversaw the arrival of Lt. Patrick Driscol and the "Freedmen's Iron Brigade."[2]
