Denise Beasley was the daughter of Buster Beasley and Christin George. She had to repeat the fifth grade due to an illness, and hadn't had a best friend from then until she befriended Minnie Hugelmair. Denise very beautiful, but was known for being a bit fierce, as her father had taught her to defend herself.
She learned how to ride a motorcycle from her father, Buster who regularly rode and at one time was in a motorcycle gang. She continued to ride her motorcycle after the Ring of Fire as horses 'didn't speak' to her.
When Jay Barlow and others set off on their path to defect to Austria in December 1634, Denise decided to help track the defectors, ultimately surviving a plane crash and being the prisoner of Janos Drugeth along with Noelle Stull, Eddie Junker, Lannie Yost and Keenen Murphy. Following this experience, Denise and Eddie began developing feeling of attraction for each other.
After missing another fair chunk of school (and despite being smart enough to not be very far behind academically), Veronica Dreeson and Inez Wiley began to serve as mentors for Denise and Minnie, hoping to keep them a bit more in line. Later during the Dreesen Incident, Denise, having seen the sniper who took the shot on Henry Dreeson and Enoch Wiley, called her father Buster Beasley as the riot continued at the Grantville synagogue. Buster killed many of the rioters, but was ultimately outnumbered, and died in the melee. As she knelt by his corpse, Denise promised her father that she would get even with those responsible.
At her father's funeral, she was finally introduced to her mother's parents, who had not approved of Buster, and hadn't spoken to her mother in many years.
In April 1635, Denise and Minnie, following Missy Jenkins and Ron Stone to Frankfurt, came upon Bryant Holloway's stolen Fire Department pickup truck. After he opened fire on them, Denise returned fire and killed Bryant, getting even for her father, as Bryant was partially responsible for the riots. This brought Denise and Minnie to Francisco Nasi's attention, who ultimately decided he could use them in his expanding intelligence network.
She helped Eddie Junker obtain his piloting license, and recommended him to Nasi as his personal pilot. Francisco later allowed him to have a likeness of Denise painted for the plane's nose art by Artemisia Gentileschi..
