Encyclopedia Americana is one of the largest general encyclopedias in the English language. Following the acquisition of Grolier in 2000, the encyclopedia has been produced by Scholastic.[1]
Encyclopedia Americana in 1632[]
Thomas Hobbes was able to read about himself in the Encyclopedia Americana. He was not happy to discover that, in the years after his death, he was accused of being an atheist, that his attack upon ecclesiastical authority enraged both Anglicans and French Catholics, and that copies of his books were publicly burned at Oxford in 1687.
