Fort George is a fort at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, that was the scene of several battles during the War of 1812. It was built by the British in 1796. In 1813, American forces captured and held the fort for a time, but finally abandoned it in December of that year.
It has become a historical site.
Fort George in Trail of Glory[]
Fort George became Brigadier Winfield Scott's military target after Fort Erie fell on July 3, 1814. However, word soon made its way to the fort of the American advance. British troops under Phineas Riall met the Americans at the Battle of Chippewa on July 5, which was a disaster for the British. After the battle, Riall retreated back into Fort George.
