Fort Strother was located in present day Alabama, in an area on the Coosa River known as Ten Islands. The approximate location of this area is at the Alabama Power Company's Neely Henry Dam in Ohatchee, Alabama. The only thing that marks the spot of this fort is a monument stone on Alabama Highway 144 in St. Clair County, Alabama.
Fort Strother in Trail of Glory[]
Fort Strother was General Andrew Jackson's headquarters in February, 1814, during the closing days of the Creek War. Here he planned the offensive that eventually became the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. It was here that he first met Sam Houston.
