George III (George William Frederick) (1738-1820) was King of Great Britain and King of Ireland from 25 October 1760 until 1 January 1801, and thereafter King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until his death. George was the third British monarch of the House of Hanover, but the first to be born in Britain and use English as his first language. In fact, he never even visited Germany, even though he also held the title of King of Hanover from 1814 until his death.
George III's long reign was marked by a series of military conflicts involving his kingdom and much of the rest of Europe. Early in his reign, Great Britain defeated France in the Seven Years' War, becoming the dominant European power in North America and India. However, many of its American colonies were soon lost in the American Revolution, which led to the establishment of the United States.
George III in Trail of Glory[]
George III's reign coincided with the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the formation of the Confederacy of the Arkansas (although Britain had nothing to to with the last event). He was succeeded by his son, George IV.
