George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle, (6 December 1608 – 3 January 1670) was an English soldier and politician and a key figure in the restoration of Charles II.

George Monck (6 December 1608 – c. November 1635) was visited by Thomas Wentworth, who showed him historical textbooks from Grantville showing Monck's part in the English Civil War and the Restoration of Charles II, convincing Monck to forego several steps and simply continue to serve Charles I. But Wentworth, knowing well that Monck was a very ambitious man, did not show Monck just how well Charles II rewarded Monck after the Restoration.

In 1635, news reached the English exiles in the Netherlands that Richard Boyle had had Monck executed.
