James Money was a captain in the BritishRoyal Navy. He participated in the Battle of New Orleans, commanding some 100 sailors, and participating in the successful capture of the western bank of the Mississippi River.
Little else seems to be recorded about Money's life.
Captain James Money was killed at the Battle of the Mississippi after the British attack on the American position was badly mauled by first the Iron Battalion then a regiment under Sam Houston. Money very briefly became the commander of the British 85th Regiment after first William Thornton then Richard Gubbind were killed. Money was killed when a force of Cherokees flanked the British. Money's skull was crushed by a war club.[1]
