Johann Gronow (September 8, 1611 – December 28, 1671), also known by the Latinized name Gronovius, was a German classical scholar and critic.

Johann Gronow in 1632[]

By December of 1635, Johann Gronow was in Magdeburg, where he was a friend of Friedrich von Logau, and part of the literary circle that included Logau, Johannes Plavius, and Karl Seelbach. He was the publisher/editor of Der schwarze Kater—Eine Zeitschrift, known in English as Black Tomcat Magazine, which was devoted to macabre storytelling in the style of Edgar Allan Poe and H. P. Lovecraft.

He wrote the libretto for the opera Arthur Rex, which was the first up-time style grand opera produced and performed in the NTL.
