John Coffee (1772-1833) was an American soldier, planter, and politician. He was a close ally of Andrew Jackson, serving at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend and the Battle of New Orleans. He served as a legislator in the Georgia state house and in the United States House of Representatives.
John Coffee was a close ally of Andrew Jackson both on and off the battlefield. Coffee was the person who first introduced Jackson to Sam Houston on the eve of the Battle of Horeshoe Bend in 1814.
Coffee played a critical role at Horseshoe Bend. Most of Jackson's Indian allies were under Coffee's command. Coffee was given the task of launching a rear assault on the Red Stick position, a task he deligated to The Ridge. The Ridge succeeded, creating a diversion, and allowing a frontal assault led by Houston to succeed.
