John Reid (d. 1816) was an aide to General Andrew Jackson through much of the War of 1812, including the Creek War. After the war, Reid began a biography of Jackson, but died before its completion.

Reid's extensive correspondence during his time as Jackson's aide has provided valuable insight into Jackson's character.

John Reid in Trail of Glory[]

As a long time aide to Andrew Jackson, Major John Reid knew how easily Jackson's temper could erupt. He often took cover when Jackson directed his temper at another party.

Reid remained by Jackson's side during the New Orleans campaign. He rode out with Jackson on December 23, 1814 during Jackson's initial attack on the British bivoaced south of the city. While Jackson's plan was too ambitious to succeed, the attack did its intended purpose: to halt the British advance long enough for the Americans to fortify.[1]
