Matthias Gallas, Graf von Campo und Herzog von Lucera (Count of Campo, Duke of Lucera) (b. Matteo Gallasso Trento 1584-1647), was an Austrian soldier who served the Catholic cause during the Thirty Years' War. He commanded a corps under Albrecht von Wallenstein, participating in several key battles between 1631 and 1632. He was part of the conspiracy against Wallenstein in 1634. After Wallenstein's assassination, he was given several commands, but was able to gain few long term victories. He died of old age in 1647.

Mathias Gallas (1584-1632) was part of Albrecht von Wallenstein's inner circle. In July, 1632, Gallas was involved in planning the raid on Grantville. He described the Americans as idiots for failing to station troops at the Wartburg. Wallenstein did not share Gallas's assessment. (The course of events proved Wallenstein right: at the later Battle of the Wartburg, the Americans drove Spanish troops into the castle, and then used psychological warfare and napalm against them, utterly routing the Spanish.)
Some weeks later, at the Battle of Alte Veste, Gallas was shot through the head by Julie Mackay after she'd shot Wallenstein through the jaw. That shot was meant for Wallenstein, as Gallas was holding his wounded commanding officer in his arms while in a state of confusion.
