Menawa (c. 1765- c. 1837) was a Creek leader. He was part of the Red Stick faction during the Creek War (1813-14). He participated in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend (March, 1814), and escaped capture by the United States. Although the Red Sticks were effectively broken during this battle, Menawa survived and continued to fight white encroachment into Creek lands. He was part of the envoy that agreed to the 1826 Treaty of Washington, which led to the final removal of the Creek people. Menawa died during the Creek removal to the west.

Menawa in Trail of Glory[]

Menawa survived the Battle of the Horseshoe Bend and escaped capture. For Andrew Jackson, Menawa's escape was a dark spot on the otherwise successful battle.
