Minnie Hugelmair was a down-time who became Benny Pierce's teenaged student/fellow performer. Her age was estimated to be somewhere around 15 in 1633, though it is possible that she did not know when she was born or exactly how old she was.
Somewhere near Halle, in Saxony, Benny encountered Minnie, working as an indentured servant whose master was withholding her promised pay. He helped her to run away, and immediately taught her to play fiddle and use her high soprano voice with him as he busked around Germany.
After a street riot in Jena during the Rudolstadt Colloquy, Benny officially adopted her, making her a citizen of Grantville. She was injured in that riot, suffering a concussion as she shielded Benny and his fiddle, and later lost her left eye as a result. She later wore a glass eye that once belonged to Henry Dreeson's uncle.
She became close friends with Denise Beasley, and the two often traveled together.
