The Red Sticks were a traditionalist faction of the Creek Nation. Their anti-white ways, inspired in part by Shawnee leader Tecumseh, led to an outbreak of civil war within the Creek, which came to be called the Creek War (1813-1814). In the aftermath of the Massacre at Mims Fort, the United States became involved, as did the Cherokee. The war was finally ended at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend.

Red Sticks in Trail of Glory[]

The rebellion launched by the Red Sticks had certain unforeseen and unintended consequences. Both Andrew Jackson and Sam Houston became national heroes for their role in the Battle of the Horseshoe Bend. Additionally, various Cherokee leaders saw how efficiently the United States dispatched the Red Sticks, and began considering their own future.

While the Red Sticks were badly broken at the Horseshoe, it wasn't until their leader, William Weatherford formally surrendered to Jackson (with Houston present) that the Red Sticks were defeated.
