Regensburg (German pronunciation: [ˈʁeɡənsbʊɐ̯k]; historically also Ratisbon, from Celtic Ratisbona, Latin: Castra Regina) (fr. Ratisbonne) is a city in Bavaria, Germany, located at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers, at one of the northernmost points of the Danube. Regensburg is the capital of the Bavarian administrative region Upper Palatinate.

In the new timeline created by Grantville's arrival, Regensburg was taken by Swedish forces following the Battle of Alte Veste. Being Lutheran, it was not turned over to the New United States for administration, but unlike Nürnberg it was later incorporated into the United States of Europe.

In January of 1636, the USE Army's Danube Regiment retreated to Regensburg after being forced out of Ingolstadt. Regensburg was the refueling point for the airships covering this retreat. It also provided material and containers for the napalm that was dropped on a village between Ingolstadt and Regensburg which was being used as a base by Bavarian cavalry under Colonel Johann von Troiberz.

Note[]

Regensburg is not mentioned as a USE imperial city, even though it had had been a Free Imperial City under the Holy Roman Empire. Maps generally show it as being within the USE province of the Upper Palatinate.
