Thomas Pinckney (1750-1828) was an American soldier, diplomat, and politician. He was a veteran of the American Revolution and the War of 1812, governor of South Carolina (1787-89), ambassador to Britain (1792-96), and a member of the House of Representatives (1797-1801). He was also a one time vice-presidential candidate.

Thomas Pinckney held the rank of major general during the War of 1812. In April, 1814, Pinckney made his way to Fort Jackson in the Mississippi Territory. He was to outrank General Andrew Jackson upon arrival.

Jackson made the most of the time before Pinckney arrived, including brokering a political deal with Lt. Sam Houston.
