Time Spike (Baen, 2008) is a novel by Eric Flint and Marilyn Kosmatka. It is another novel featuring an example of the Assiti Shards effect, and indirectly ties into the 1632 series. The site where Grantville was replaced with German countryside is an ongoing mystery, and the Federal Government has locked the zone down.
In this novel, a maximum security prison is shunted millions of years in the past. However, the Assiti Shard effect also transfers people from other eras, including Cherokees on the Trail of Tears in the 1830s, mound-builders, and Spanish conquistadors. This novel also checks back on the present, as a group of scientists tries to determine just what happened to the prison. They soon see similarities between this new incident and the disappearance of Grantville in 2000.
