The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (commonly known as the United Kingdom, the UK, or Britain) is a sovereign island state located off the northwestern coast of continental Europe. While it is a country in and of itself, it is also comprised of four constituent countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. It is a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary system. Once the center of one of the largest empires the world has ever seen, it still retains several overseas territories in a commonwealth system.

The United Kingdom has played an important role in global history, especially in the 18th, 19th, and 20th Centuries. It remains a critical economic, political, and military power on the global stage.

United Kingdom in Trail of Glory[]

The United Kingdom and its empire found itself fighting two wars on two continents in 1812. It faced Napoleon in Europe and the United States in North America. While preferred to commit most of its resources to Europe, it had nonethless managed a series of victories in North America, squashing an invasion of Canada.

By 1814, it was clear to both the U.S. and the U.K. that Napoleon was facing a final defeat, and that the British could turn their attention fully to the U.S. Thus, it was imperative for the U.S. to wrap up all side conflicts, such as the Creek War, to face the full brunt of the British.
