The United States Army is the branch of the United States armed forces responsible for land-based military operations. It is the largest and oldest established branch of the U.S. military. The modern Army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on 14 June 1775, before the establishment of the United States, to meet the demands of the American Revolution.

United States Army in Trail of Glory[]

The War of 1812 demonstrated the defects in the United States Army, and saw substantial tension between the regular army (which many leaders came to prefer) and the militias (which were in turn viewed as unreliable).

After some years of humiliating defeats, the U.S. Army received a boost in 1814.

By the time of the Arkansas War in 1825, the lessons of the War of 1812 had been applied, and the Army was thoroughly revamped.
