The United States presidential election of 1824 was arguably the most contentious presidential election the country had seen to that point. Five candidates made a bid for the office. Consequently, the matter was resolved in the House of Representatives. The dominant issue was the relationship between the young U.S. and the younger Confederacy of the Arkansas.
